With increasing technological developments, the mystery of black holes will become clear. Researchers have revealed the method they used to find black holes. Astronomers have studied situations where a star is tidally pulled into a black hole. Researchers call this phenomenon tidal disruption events, or TDE.
So what is this TDE? The stars are falling apart. Voracious black holes are slowly swallowing these disintegrating stars. This situation causes a tremendous energy explosion that can be seen everywhere in the electromagnetic spectrum. These TDEs are what scientists look for when trying to find black holes in vast space. And so far this method has helped discover many black holes.
These new black holes were previously hidden because they needed the infrared band to be detected. Black holes are especially found in dusty galaxies. So black holes are usually covered in a ton of galactic debris from planet formation and the deaths of other stars in the galaxy. As such, it is very difficult to see the black holes at their centers. However, thanks to this energy emitted by TDEs, infrared bands can be detected more easily.
But researchers at MIT examined the universe with an infrared band. So they were able to detect many more TDEs. Thus, they discovered 18 new black holes, the mysteries of which had not been solved before. Additionally, these black holes are scattered throughout the universe. So they are found in different types of galaxies.
